Q. Chris, what’s your current hunting setup (bands, ammo, taper, slingshot)? Does this differ from your target practice setup? If so, how?

A. My current favourite setup's are 20-12mm or 22-12mm tapered 0.5mm Snipersling black. Depending on the temperature, I bounce between these two options, as they are giving me great speeds with my 8mm steel shot and a good band life.

Q. I just ordered my custom catapult. When can I expect to see it in the mail?

A. My slingshots are made-to-order and are normally shipped around 2–4 weeks from the order date. UK post is 1st class recorded, and international delivery is international tracked.

Q. What is the best setup for 8mm (5/16”) steel?

A. My current favourite setup for 8mm steel is 0.5mm Snipersling (black) tapered 22-12mm.

Q. What is the best setup for 9.5mm (3/8”) steel?

A. 0.6mm elastic tapered 24-12mm is a great setup for 9.5mm steel ammo.

Q. What is the best setup for 11mm (7/16”) steel?

A. 0.8mm elastic tapered 25-13mm is a good choice for 11mm steel ammo.

Q. Which is better: using a thinner band with a wider taper or a thicker band with a more narrow taper?

A. It will depend on the temperature. A thinner band with a wider taper is typically faster unless in cold conditions; a thicker band will withstand the cold better. Also, many find a narrower band easier to aim down. So, it all comes down to preference. I suggest that you experiment with bands and see what you feel works best for you.

Q. There are tons of flat band brands on the market (e.g., SimpleShot, GZK, Precise, Slipersling, 100% Slingshot, Falcon, Celtic Cattys, BSB, Gong Chi, Sheshou, Sumeike, Catty Shack, Xianer Buluo, Theraband, Usopp, King Jin); which is your favourite?

A. My top three are Snipersling, 100% Slingshot, and GZK (in that order).

Q. Why do you prefer flat bands to tubes? Is there any advantage to tubes?

A. Tubes are quieter and typically last longer. I prefer flat bands because the performance is far superior.

Q. Do you have plans to come out with a new slingshot? If so, when?

A. I have a head full of ideas. It's just getting the time to put them to action!

Q. Do you ever hunt with lead? What are the advantages and disadvantages of lead compared to steel?

A. Yes, I have hunted with lead. It's advantages over steel are (1) for the same size projectile, lead is much heavier, so you can generate a lot more kinetic energy; (2) it can find its way through brush better (i.e., it doesn't deflect as easy); (3) it doesn't ricochet as bad as steel, and (4) it can be an inexpensive way to make shot if you have a smelting pot and shot mould(s). It's disadvantages are that (1) it's toxic, (2) it's heavy to carry, (3) it's harder to see a dull lead ball in flight, and (4) it deforms easy, so when shooting at targets and collecting the lead shot to reuse, a lot of it will have been deformed by the target. Such inconsistencies in the ammo will result in less accurate shooting unless the lead is re-smelted and moulded, which is time consuming.

Q. Does your setup change during the winter months? If so, how?

A. Yes I will shoot a wider taper or a thicker band in the winter.

Q. How long have you been shooting a slingshot? When did you start winning tournaments?

A. I've been shooting a slingshot since 2011. I started competitive shooting in 2015, and I started winning tournaments in 2016 after a getting a few 3rd's and 2nd's in my first year.
